By combining layered colors of milk paint with the technique of incise carving on the surface and an intentional use of texture created by various woodworking tools (i.e., handplanes, scraper, spokeshave, bandsaw, handsaws) a dimensional effect is created by Portland furniture artist Michael de Forest. The hardness of the paint allows the separate layers to be easily sanded through creating varying colors at different levels of the texture. The surface is then either sealed with wax or sprayed with lacquer for durability. |
